Sometimes feelings can feel very big for little ones, but the Mr. Men Little Miss are here to help!
The Mr. Men and Little Miss have been delighting children for generations with their charming and funny antics, bold illustrations, and iconic personalities. Now, the much-loved characters are here to help to entertain and educate a new generation of readers.
Discover You is the brand-new, collectable series from the Mr. Men Little Miss all about big feelings for little readers.
The Mr. Men and Little Miss are the perfect characters to help young children understand a little more about their own emotions and how to manage them.
Focusing on different themes, emotions and feelings, each pocket-sized book in the Discover You series follows the familiar cast of characters as they navigate feelings big and small in their own fun-filled adventure, seamlessly integrating engaging questions within the story-time experience to encourage conversations between child and adult.
Questions include the likes of, ‘What do you worry about?’ and ‘What can you do when things feel like they’re a little too much?’, gently promoting a deeper understanding and exploration of emotions. The stories in the Discover You series also come complete with helpful tips from favourite characters to help little ones further develop their emotional intelligence.
With stories about anxiety, kindness, mindfulness, diversity (and so many more!), there’s a Discover You book for everyone! This series is the essential tool for parents and children to explore what it means to be happy, sad and everything in between.
Alongside guiding little ones through conversations around mental health and wellbeing, Discover You is also about celebrating the importance of reading with children, and making sure reading is as accessible as possible.
As part of the launch of Discover You, Farshore and Mr. Men Little Miss worked with Consultant Clinical Psychologist Dr Elizabeth Kilbey to share expert tips to help guide parents through their children’s emotional development and help parents discover the joy of reading with their kids:
TIP 1 | Children and young people can feel less anxious if they are able to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment (NHS, 2021). Take time at the end of a story to talk about the characters and how they were feeling. You can ask your child if they have ever felt the same and encourage them to discuss times when they have felt like this.
TIP 2 | You can use the pictures and characters to make up your own personal topsy-turvy story.
TIP 3 | Help direct your child’s attention to the words and pictures as you read so they can learn to direct their focus and keep pace with you.
TIP 4 | Read out loud to your child. This will teach them new vocabulary and help develop their communication and speaking skills.
TIP 5 | Spend quality time with your child to help build your relationship with them and in turn help them boost their confidence and self-esteem.
TIP 6 | Act the story out, play it out or simply make it up as you go along. Could you make up something as crazy as Mr Silly?
So come along and join the Mr. Men Little Miss as they help little ones unpack BIG feelings in the brand new, collectable series: Discover You.
