As sturdily constructed as it is attractively designed, this lovely little board book combines a cute (and – perhaps rather more to the point – securely attached) ladybird finger puppet with tough, cut out pages; gorgeous, collagestyle illustrations; and a gentle and simple storyline that simultaneously celebrates nature and family. It’s a winning formula, which explains why there are a dozen or so precisely similarly formatted titles in the series. You probably don’t need all of them, to be fair – but with their high production values, timeless charm and immense potential for fun they represent excellent value for money, and are therefore certainly worth considering next time you’re balancing the budget with an eye to enhancing your reading corner.
