Play Foundations is a series of books developed to help Early Years practitioners provide a positive learning environment for the children in their early years setting. Each book provides detailed guidance in setting up quality play scenarios or activities with young children.
The series is fully matched to the new Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum 2012 covering the seven Areas of learning and development with links to the 3 Prime areas of learning and the 4 Specific areas of learning. A Planning chart is included in each book to enable the practitioner to easily identify the areas of learning they are covering within each activity. And with useful hints and tips on observation and assessment, planning next steps and future activities couldn’t be simpler.
Learning through play
All activities are based on the four guiding principles of the EYFS 2012:
• Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
• Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
• Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents.
• Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.
The activities are specifically designed to encourage active learning through playing and exploring. They aim to support each child in learning to create and think critically as they develop in their own individual way.
