West Africa is in a state of emergency, with the Ebola virus spreading at an alarming rate. Over five thousand people have lost their lives across five countries – that’s more fatalities than all previous Ebola outbreaks combined. With already impoverished communities struggling to cope, urgent assistance is needed to prevent this highly infectious disease spiralling out of control.
The World Health Organisation warns that unless the outbreak is halted, over one million people could be infected by January.
Concern Worldwide is already responding in two of the worst affected countries - Liberia and Sierra Leone, where people are most at risk. We’re training health workers, supporting health centres, installing vital hand washing stations and training communities on how to prevent infections
