Training

Train as an Early Years Teacher at the University of Derby

Young minds crave imaginative learning. Gain the skills to deliver creative teaching to the 0-5 age range.
Early years teachers are graduate leaders of practice in the early years sector. We can equip you with the essential skills to deliver innovative early years practices to children from birth to five.

At the University of Derby, we offer four routes to Early Years Teacher status:

Graduate Entry
If you have a degree and would like to pursue a career in Early Years, then our Graduate Entry pathway is for you. You’ll study this pathway on a full-time basis, and there’s a bursary to support you (dependent on your degree classification)

Graduate Entry - employment based
You can complete our Graduate Entry - Employment Based pathway if you are a graduate working in the sector or are a newly recruited graduate. You can also access an incentive grant to support you and your setting during the course.

Assessment Only
Our Assessment Only pathway has been developed for graduates who have experience of working with children from birth to five, and are able to demonstrate the Teachers’ Standards (Early Years) across the full birth to five age range without further training or placement experience.

BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies with EYTS
Our BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies with EYTS will support you to gain a specialist undergraduate degree alongside the professional status of Early Years Teacher (EYTS). The training equips you with appropriate skills and knowledge for the birth to five age range.
